Discover Huntington: a Great Place to Work and Live

There are hundreds of cities out there. And most are nice places to live. But let's face facts. The Huntington area is not only a wonderful place to live; it is also a wonderful place to do business with low property taxes, low utility rates, low cost of living, and a low crime rate. Huntington offers the latest medical care, a highly respected University, a vibrant downtown, and many educational, employment, and economic development opportunities.

Everyone talks about quality of life. In Huntington, we live it. Because we're lucky enough to have roots that stretch deep, anchoring us to this place. Besides, there is something special about this area. It's the face of a rugged mountain, rising over a scenic river- silently overseeing a spectacular city skyline. It's generations who have faced adversity with strength; who have challenged the tried and true, and created unconventional solutions for success. The real difference between the Huntington area and other cities is our people. They are warm, hardworking and caring and can make a difference to any company's bottom line.

It's where business still happens with the shake of a hand, and where international companies feel right at home. It's facing the future - with one foot firmly planted in the lessons of the past. It's Huntington, West Virginia. And it's like no other place on earth.

A Study of the City of Huntington

We invite you to read a study completed by Marshall University faculty. This study had its origins in a suggestion from Marshall University’s President, Stephen Kopp, that a study by the faculty could yield some insights and possibly useful considerations in addressing some of the problems that have confronted the operation of the government of the City of Huntington and have been the subject of concern in recent years. The initial idea was explored with members of the area business community and elected officials of the City of Huntington in the Fall of 2005. During the Winter of 2006 a Scope of Work was developed, sponsorship from the area business community was obtained through the efforts of the Chamber of Commerce, and the study team was assembled and began work in Spring 2006. The Face of the Progress and Future is Here

For some perhaps, the future may loom uncertainly. For us, it sparkles. Because our work ethic, our strong family roots and our traditions keep us secure, while our technology, innovative educational opportunities and constantly expanding business base allow us to embrace new possibilities.

We welcome the future both with newborn technology and long-held traditions. Ideas and innovations are born here. Businesses grow and thrive. Fledging enterprises mature, and long established corporations continue to develop.

Huntington was recently designated a Federal Enterprise Community and through the "Our Jobs, Our Children, Our Future" grassroots efforts, we continue to work together to prepare for future growth. It's a future where your business is encouraged and supported. Where employees still believe in an "honest day's work." And where the cost of doing business is surprisingly low. Your future is here!
