Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Tri-State is a non-profit agency, is designed to provide guidance and companionship to youth through a one-to-one relationship with caring volunteer to assist them in achieving their highest potential. The concept of this program is based on the premise that a child, in order to grow into responsible adulthood, needs a positive relationship with a mature adult figure. Where this influence is lacking, the child is handicapped in reaching his or her potential. Their clients are children needing friendship, affection, advice and guidance. They may be emotionally deprived, in trouble at school, or just a lonely, unhappy child in need of a meaningful relationship.

Cabell County Promise provides a community-based system of collaborative planning and family advocacy which assists users and providers in receipt & delivery of coordinated delivery of services to individuals and family units; coordinates and promotes services to prevent students from dropping out of school; provides conferences, employee workshops, and Family Centered Practice Training; promotes prevention, early detection and intervention through CHIP outreach, Partners in Prevention, Children's Trust Fund, "Good Beginnings Last a Lifetime," Child Advocacy Center (response to domestic violence/child abuse) and Healthy Families America.

Cammack Children's Center is a nonprofit organization that provides a caring living situation for 32 severely emotionally disturbed and dependent/delinquent youth ages 12-18. It is highly structured Level II therapeutic group home with an intensive professional multi-disciplinary focus for children and severe emotional behavior disturbances. This setting is primarily for those children who will require intensive services over an extended period of time and who require these services to be provided within a centralized therapeutic setting for maximum benefit.

The Children's Home Society of West Virginia is a private, non-profit child welfare organization providing comprehensive child welfare, behavioral health, social casework and advocacy services are provided to over 6,887 children each year from twelve primary locations throughout the state, including Huntington. Some of their current programs are adoption, foster care, in-home and in-community services for children and families, emergency shelter care, respite, mediation, parent education training, prenatal and early childhood services, volunteer and mentoring, youth services, visitation and reunification, school based social work, day care and comprehensive assessment services.

The Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) Project of Boyd County, Kentucky is a 501 (c)3 non-profit organization incorporated in March 2000. The mission of CASA is to provide volunteer advocates who are committed to work on behalf of abused and neglected children involved in the court system. CASA volunteers provide a constant source of information to the court and undertake any and all activities necessary for the promotion of these children’s health, safety and welfare until a permanent disposition is made.

Huntington Youth Arts and Music Project (HYAMP) was created to give the community of Huntington and the surrounding areas an alternative form of entertainment by hosting concerts, art shows, skating competitions, parties and anything else people ask for. They strive to provide a safe, fun, alternative to the bars that are in Huntington. Hyamp is an all ages venue for every show, skate competition, art show, etc. They do not serve or allow alcohol/drugs in the building and smoking is confined to the outside. On most nights they have a curfew of 11 p.m. and make sure all shows and other activities end by then.

Junior Achievement of West Virginia and the Advantage Valley, a private not-for-profit organization, accomplishes its purpose by providing economic education programs to students in Kindergarten through twelfth grades. Volunteer businesspeople and parents present materials provided by Junior Achievement to the students by using fun, hands-on activities. It currently has programs in the following counties: Cabell, Jackson, Kanawha, Lincoln, Putnam in WV; Boyd and Carter in KY.

Kiwanis International is a thriving organization of service and community-minded men and women who support children and young adults worldwide. Kiwanis clubs assist children and young adults, the aging, and the needy; improve communities; and encourage international understanding. Kiwanis clubs sponsor youth organizations for young men and women. K-Kids in elementary schools, Builders Club in junior high and middle schools, Key Club in high schools, Circle K at the collegiate level, and Kiwanis Junior clubs for young adults in Europe teach future world leaders the importance of helping others.

Mountain State Family Alliance (MSFA) focuses on the development of a System of Care for children and youth with serious emotional disturbances (SED) in following WV counties: Cabell, Wayne, Lincoln, Mason, Putnam, Boone, Logan, Mingo, Jackson, Kanawha, and Roane. Services provided advocacy in schools, mental health centers, DHHR, juvenile justice; programs to facilitate social activities between the parents and their children; emotional support, training, workshops and meetings with parents about plans/needs of their children; educational information and assistance, referrals for financial assistance and to the various I & R's in the region.

Prevent Child Abuse West Virginia (PCA-WV) is working to keep children safe and help families thrive. It offers information and advice about what we can do to support families and keep children safe; effective programs building communities that play a vital role in keeping children safe and helping them thrive; and policy research and analysis to help guide the development of sound policies that protect children.

RESA

River Cities Therapeutic Riding Center (RCTRC) is a 501 (c) 3 tax-exempt, non-profit organization, dedicated to the well being of children and adults through equine facilitated therapy. They provide equine facilitated therapy and recreational therapy services to children and adults with disabilities. Therapeutic activities are designed to assist people to reach independence, as well as obtain a quality of life with enjoyment, confidence, and self-fulfillment. Their programs include; equine facilitated therapy, hippotherapy, therapeutic horseback riding, occupational therapy, recreational therapy, general riding lessons, scout programs for boys and girls.

River Valley Child Development Services provides high quality, educational and developmental services to the children and families in nurturing and individually appropriate settings. This organization operates after-school programs for elementary students who need supervised care between the close of the school day and the beginning of family time. It also administers three Child Development Centers in Cabell County. These include Norma Cray Early Learning Child Development Center, Enterprise Child Development Center, and Bright Futures.

TEAM for West Virginia Children provides programs like Child Assault Prevention Project (CAP); the Court Appointed Special Advocate Program (CASA); Healthy Families America; the New STEPS screening, assessment and referral system; Prevent Child Abuse West Virginia; our Shaken Baby Syndrome Campaign and many other useful resources for parents, family members, teachers and others who work with children and families.
