The Greater Huntington Parks and Recreation District is comprised of eleven parks scattered throughout the city, most notably, Ritter Park.

Altizer Park: Softball/Soccer Field, Parking, Basketball Court, Picnic shelter with 4 picnic tables, 1 grill and electrical outlets, Children's playground, Open play space, Restrooms

April Dawn Park: Open Play Space, Parking, Picnic shelter with 14 tables, 2 grills and electrical outlets, Children's Playground, Restrooms

Camp Mad Anthony Wayne: Open play Space, Swings with sliding board, Hiking Trails, Picnic Tables, Parking, Open Campfire Circle, Lodge sleeps 28 people, 8 tables, 70 chairs, bathroom and shower facilities. The lodge is heated by two fireplaces - wood provided. Kitchen facilities - small refrigerator/freezer, commercial gas oven/range, assorted pots, pans, dishes and silverware.

Harveytown Park: 5 regular tables and 1 handicap, electrical outlet, 1 grill, water fountain and restrooms

McClelland Park: a beautiful spot to play tennis or basketball. Huntington's best courts are awaiting you. Two Tennis Courts, Basketball Court and Picnic Tables.

Memorial Park: features a beautiful arch dedicated to those soldiers and sailors who gave their lives for their country during World War I. Adjacent to the memorial is an expansive green area perfect for a picnic or an afternoon of reading. The park features Walking trail, playground, Sliding boards with swings close by, Picnic shelter with 3 tables, grill and water fountain, Portable restroom.

RPA Community Park: a great location to play basketball, it has basketball court and now a playground for the kids, Home to the annual "Valley Ball 3-on-3 Tournament."

Ritter Park: Children's playground, Parking, Walking trails, Open play space, Restrooms, Shelter with 12 tables, 3 grills and electrical outlets.

Rotary Park: offers a panoramic view of the East end, Observation Tower, Basketball court, Open play space, Hiking trails, Restrooms, Shelter with 8 tables, grill and electrical outlets, Ball fields, Children's playground, Parking, Disc Golf Course.

St. Cloud Commons: Ball Fields, Children's Playground, Parking, Basketball Court, Open Play Space, Restrooms, Meeting Rooms, Volleyball Court, Lodge with capacity to hold 90 to 100 people.

Westmoreland Park: Basketball Court, Children's Playground, Parking, Shelter with 4 tables, Tennis Court, Open play space.

The Barboursville Community Park is spreading over 900 acres are soccer fields, three baseball fields, tennis courts, basketball courts, volleyball courts, little league baseball fields, midget football field, fishing lakes and ponds, picnic areas, an amphitheater, walking trails, horse show ring, and an archery range.

Beech Fork State Park offers 3,144 acres of some of the best recreation experience in the southwestern section of West Virginia. Beech Fork is located 12 miles south of Huntington and Barboursville and is just a short drive from Charleston, Cincinnati and Lexington. Developed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in the mid 1970's, Beech Fork Lake has owned up to its popularity for recreation boating, fishing and wildlife watching experiences.Many varieties of migratory water fowl, neotropical songbirds, raptors, whitetail deer, fox, even an occasional passing black bear may be viewed while visiting the park. The early spring brings with it the welcome call of different species of frogs and toads. Spring wildflowers are a common sight to hikers and those who look carefully as they walk or bicycle along the roads and trails. Fishing is one of the most common activities that visitors and overnight guests may enjoy. The lake is known for largemouth and hybrid striped bass, catfish, walleye, saugeye (a cross of walleye and sauger), and bluegill.

Cabwaylingo State Forest is located on 8,123 heavily forested acres in the heart of Southern West Virginia in Wayne County. Built in the 1930's, the forest gets its unique name from the four surrounding counties from which it serves: CABell, WAYne, LINcoln, MinGO. This park features swimming pool, picnicking facilities, game court, hiking trails, 13 cabins, camping, hunting and fishing.

Harris Riverfront Park stretches along the Ohio River bordering the downtown area. The park provides a tranquil setting and beautiful scenery for family outings, picnics, peaceful or romantic walks along the River walk, fishing, or boating. The Park includes a playground, picnic shelter, amphitheater, floating stage, a river walk as well as a boat dock and boat ramp. Huntington Outdoor Theatre does outdoor productions at Huntington's Ritter Park Amphitheater.

Carter Caves State Park: Beneath the forested hills of this resort, nature has hidden more than 20 twisting caverns. Visit Cascade Cave, where you'll discover a 30-foot underground waterfall. A must-see while you're at Carter Caves is X Cave, where, for millions of years, nature has formed luminous stone fans, pipes and spirals. Park features: welcome center, lake, 2 pools, boat dock, pedal and row boats, organized canoe trips, fishing, horseback riding, picnic shelters, playground, woodland amphitheater, gift shop, mini-golf, planned recreation, nature trails, handicap access. Cave tours: Saltpetre Cave, X Cave, Cascade Cavern & Bat.

Fox Fire is a 60 acre resort offering RV camping with 117 full hook-up sites equipped with 30 & 50 amp electric. Activities include public picnicking, fishing, waterslide, spray ground, swimming pools, jacuzzi, paddle boats, kayaks, putt golf, tennis, basketball and volleyball and holiday entertainment for the campers. It also offers hot air balloon rides and a great place for company picnics and parties, reunions, church socials and other catered affairs.

Valley Park is 50 acre park located in Hurricane, WV. It is home to the Waves of Fun Water Park, Hurricane Valley Community Center, the Putnam County Parks and Recreation Commission and the Convention & Visitors Bureau. Facilities include Water Slide and Wave Pool, Tennis Courts, picnic areas, art museum, short walking trail, play equipment, 18 hole mini golf course, two softball/baseball fields, soccer field, sand volleyball, and amphitheater.
